Cash Crop Farming
Business Opportunities That Grow Your Income

Cash crop farming is the original home based business. Long before the Internet was invented, farmers planted cash crops for their livelihood. Choose these unusual but lucrative cash crops to fatten your bank account.

Cash Crop Farming

In order to maximize your income from your land, choosing a profitable cash crop to plant is perhaps the most important decision you will have to make. Common crops such as corn and wheat have worldwide competition.

Less common crops can be a niche that can only be supplied by farmers and gardeners in certain areas of the world where growing conditions permit. For instance, growing Styrian pumpkins, a green striped pumpkin popular in Austria, can have its seeds pressed into pumpkin seed oil.

Pumpkin seed oil and roasted pumpkin seeds are more profitable than plain old pumpkins. And you have less competition.

Ginseng farming is very lucrative. Ginseng, a gnarly root known for its healthful benefits, can only be grown in shaded areas like forests or man-made shade. Wisconsin is the highest producing state for ginseng due to its hilly and fertile soil.

How profitable? How about $50,000 to $70,000 per acre! That is $23 to $60 a pound for dried roots.

Asparagus is another cash crop that can make a unique business idea. In Wisconsin, only 250 acres of asparagus is grown in the state on 225 farms. While not as profitable as ginseng, asparagus will produce a crop much sooner. It is also less costly to grow.

Here is a great business idea. Design corn mazes for agritourism. While not a cash crop per se, it is a way to turn an ordinary crop, such as corn, into a profitable business. If you don't want to design corn mazes, own one! Corn mazes are more profitable than corn. If it wasn't, farmers wouldn't cut their crop for a maze.

Start a beekeeping business and pollinate your crops. Honey is always in demand. No planting is required. Why not have thousands of bees producing a cash crop for you? Keep them happy and they will work for you without wages.

Cash crop farming provides a way for you to earn more cash from your land and shady areas. Find and plant the right cash crop and you can increase your income.
