How To
Increase Search Engine Traffic
To Your Website Or Blog
And Earn More!

The secret to increase search engine traffic to your website or blog is simple. There isn't any black magic. You just need to keep the search engines happy!

If the search engines find and love your page, and your website, they will rank your page higher in their listings. This will increase your website traffic and your profit.

Think about it. The search engines exist to make a profit. They make their profit by pleasing their customers. Who are the search engine company's customers? Advertisers are!

Advertisers pay big dollars to increase search engine traffic to their websites. You have seen the advertisers ads ahead of and along side of the search listings. Likewise you have seen search engine text ads embedded in pages on many websites.

When people click these ads, the search engine earns a fee. The advertisers want people who are looking for what they have to offer.

The search engines please their advertisers when they deliver qualified visitors to their customer's website or sales page. If the customers are happy, they will spend more money advertising with the search engines.

Now you and I want to increase search engine traffic to our websites too. To do that we must help the search engines in their mission of pleasing their customers.

You need to create a website with pages of content that are directly related to the search request. If someone is searching for "cheap florida airline tickets", you need to have a website about Florida and a page about, you guessed it, "cheap florida airline tickets".

Each page on your website must relate to the theme of the website. In this case the theme is Florida.

Now just having a page about "cheap florida airline tickets" on a website whose theme is Florida isn't enough.

Each page must meet the search engine's expectation. That is, the keyword "cheap florida airline tickets" must appear in certain regions of the page. You don't want to over do it, or the search engines will penalize you for keyword spamming.

The areas you need to have your keyword are:

  • Page title
  • Page description meta tag
  • Keywords meta tag once
  • Article headline
  • In your opening paragraph
  • In the body of your article several times
  • In one text link
  • Graphic if you have one

The more text you have, the more times you must use the keyword.

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) people concentrate on the density of the keyword and other factors. They often go overboard and try to con and manipulate the search engines. Not a good practice!

It's not long before search engines change their algorithms. SEOers have to re-write their pages to gain the spot they lost in the search engine results. A losing battle.

I have found that a better way to increase search engine traffic is to write a quality page with the right "hooks" to tell the search engines what the page is about and then forget about tweaking the page for SEO reasons.

I use Site Build It (new window opens) to check my page for these "hooks". If my page passes Site Build It's analysis, then I publish the page and forget about tweaking the page.

Even if the page gets dropped, and occasionally it happens, I have found that the page usually gets re-listed in the search engines without any tweaks on my part sometime in the future.

There are other criteria that is more important than SEO tweaking if you want to increase search engine traffic to your website or blog.

Get Back Links to Your Website Or Blog

Search engines look for off-page criteria when they rate your website, blog, and page. They look to see who links to the page. Is it a quality website or a scrape website?

How long do people stay when they get to the page? If your visitor returns to the search engine to search again, it is a sign that your page didn't deliver what the visitor was looking for.

These issues must be addressed if you want to increase search engine traffic.

Here are a few ways to get back links to your website.

  • Buy web directory listings of Page Rank 4 or higher
  • Exchange links with complimentary websites
  • Write articles for other websites and newsletters
  • Add a links page that gives your visitor the text link to your website
  • Start an affiliate program that links back to your website
Google™ says one reason why some sites are not listed is because

"The site isn't well connected through multiple links from other sites on the web."

To increase search engine traffic and your rankings, get links!

Give Webmasters A Reason To Link To You

Often I get requests to exchange links with other websites. I have to decline many for these reasons:

  • No unique content
  • No back links such as directories
  • Poor quality
  • Links to/from link farms
  • Has a link farm page
  • Is a competitor site
  • Has a lot of banner ads
  • Poor Alexa ranking

Anyone can make a website today. To increase search engine traffic you must only link to quality websites that play by Google's™ rules. If you don't, the search engines will penalize you and those who link to you.

Quality content is the main key to increase search engine traffic. If you have quality unique content, then Webmasters of quality websites will want to link to you. So, over deliver!

This means in addition to knowing your subject, you employed the art of superior copywriting. Great headlines and prose. Deliver what your website visitor is looking for and you will increase search engine traffic to your website or blog.
