I would read about canoe trips that others took. I would take note of what canoes they recommend or used. I would also take note of related equipment that would make canoeing better.

I would then research online for the canoes mentioned. I would want to know what canoe is the best, the easiest to handle, the lightest, and the easiest to repair.

I would research different canoe websites and manufacturers for information. What makes their canoe better than their competitors?

When I am informed, then I would look for a canoe store either online, or locally.

I could easily find all Royalex® or Kevlar canoes. I also would then know to search for brand names such as a Wenonah canoe or perhaps a Mad River canoe.
