Top Internet Businesses' Secrets Revealed!

Top internet businesses have mastered what every online business struggles to obtain, traffic. I searched Alexa, the web information company, to see who they rank as the top 10 internet businesses and what these websites have in common.

Here are the top 10 websites as of April 2010.

  • Google
  • Facebook
  • YouTube
  • Yahoo
  • Live
  • Wikipedia
  • Blogger
  • Baidu
  • MSN
  • QQ

To be included on this list, each website has mastered the art of developing a website loaded with content that people want and seek daily.

Google compiles website pages and ranks them relevant to the search query. They are the most popular search engine on the web.

Facebook is a social utility whose content is created by their members. Teenagers to celebrities have posted their views on every topic imaginable.

YouTube is the popular video search engine. YouTube allows folks to "broadcast themselves", posting their home grown videos online. You will find music to business videos to the most unimaginable wacky pranks.

Yahoo got their start with their popular directory. Long before search engines became popular, directories attempted to list the best websites online. Today Yahoo is also noted for their search engines.

Live is another search engine. This is the Microsoft version.

Wikipedia, the online collaborative encyclopedia, builds their content by anyone with knowledge posting informational articles on most any subject.

Blogger created the automated weblog tool that is popular with individuals who like to post articles of their interest on their blog.

Baidu is a Chinese search engine which compiles websites, audio, and images. Unlike US search engines, this search engine must censor some content that the Chinese government objects to.

MSN began as a dialup access and content provider. Today MSN is Microsoft's portal, offering everything from News to celebrity gossip.

QQ is another Chinese website. Their original content? An instant messaging program. Today they include games, pets, ringtone downloads, etc.

As you can see, the top internet businesses created desirable content. This content created demand, and traffic resulted, boosting their websites to the top ten internet businesses.

SiteSell, Inc., a popular web hosting company in Canada, teaches that if you want to create a popular business online, you need to master what they call CTPM. (new window)

CTPM stands for Content, Traffic, PREsell, and Monetize.

Note that all the top ten online businesses listed above mastered the content requirement. Whether they compiled information published on the web for their search engines, or whether they had their members create their content such as Facebook and YouTube, they developed large sites loaded with information that people want.

From this content, traffic resulted, boosting their Alexa rankings. If any of these websites didn't have desirable content, they would not have traffic, no matter how pretty their website designers made them.

PREselling is the art of writing in a friendly conversational tone in short, sharp, active sentences on your web pages. Ken Evoy, the president of SiteSell, Inc. and the author of Make Your Content PREsell!, says

Good PREselling is a bit like good art... Visitors know great content when they read it. Winning, PREselling content "works" at several levels...

  1. It has that "been there - done that" voice and flair.
  2. It has specific knowledge that comes from real experience.
  3. It supports a depth of useful information -- good reference material plays an important part.
  4. It is spun or positioned in a way that is uniquely yours.

Good content creates credibility. Only when you have credibility, can you monetize your website.

Google monetizes their website by selling ads that match the visitor's keyword search. You can monetize your website by selling other people's products and services, or by creating your own product or service or by selling ads through Google's Adsense program.

If you want to join the top internet businesses, learn the art of CTPM. (new window) It is the secret to online success!

How well does SiteSell do? Their Alexa rank is 461. Not bad for a small company a fraction of the size of Google. There isn't any doubt that SiteSell has joined the top internet businesses too. Imagine what they can teach you!
